・Popper Mouth (Cupped Face)
The popper’s face is cut at a slight angle (a jutting, scooped shape), so that when you jerk it, the lure does not track straight but instead moves in an arc to either the left or right.
This is the intended action, creating the impression of a weakened, fleeing baitfish.
Furthermore, because it draws this arc when jerked, the lure wanders off course before returning to its vertical standing stay position.
Rather than a lure that appeals through splash, it was designed to appeal to tuna through its movement.
・Hook Position
In fact, the front hook is positioned slightly further back compared to similarly sized commercial products.
The reason is that there are many bites while the lure is standing vertically, and from experience I felt that a greater proportion of bites land on the rear weight.
Since the bites come from the side or from below, and bluefin tuna dive to the side or downward after biting, the front hook was intentionally placed slightly further back to improve the hooking rate.
